Bureau Veritas China and Pacific Gas Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement for Gas Carrier Innovation

Bureau Veritas (BV) China and Pacific Gas (Hong Kong) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai, aiming to strengthen technical innovation, vessel modernization, and sustainable development across the liquefied gas shipping industry.
The partnership will focus on providing technical consultancy services for liquefied gas carriers, with particular emphasis on vessel retrofitting, safety compliance, and commercially viable engineering solutions.
Advancing Gas Carrier Technology
Under the agreement, both companies will collaborate on developing and evaluating technical solutions for modernizing existing gas carriers.
Their cooperation will include feasibility studies, technical advisory services, and the development of practical implementation strategies designed to improve vessel performance while meeting evolving industry safety and environmental requirements.
Particular attention will be given to Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs), which are becoming increasingly important as global demand for cleaner energy transportation continues to evolve.
Supporting the Energy Transition
As the global energy sector undergoes significant transformation, liquefied gas shipping companies face growing pressure to adopt new technologies, improve operational efficiency, and respond to changing market conditions.
Bureau Veritas and Pacific Gas aim to address these challenges through technical expertise, digital solutions, and closer cooperation across the gas transportation value chain.
The agreement also covers professional training, market development, and joint business initiatives, creating opportunities for both companies to expand their capabilities and strengthen their industry presence.
Long-Term Industry Cooperation
The partnership establishes a framework for continued collaboration on gas carrier innovation, retrofitting technologies, and digitalization.
By combining Bureau Veritas' technical and classification expertise with Pacific Gas' experience in international gas transportation, the companies aim to support safer, more efficient, and increasingly sustainable maritime operations.
