DP World Names Its First Methanol Dual-Fuel Container Vessel

DP World’s Shipping Solutions business has officially named its first methanol dual-fuel vessel, DP World London, during a ceremony in Aarhus, Denmark.
The new 1,250 TEU container vessel was built in China and delivered in April 2026. Measuring 148 metres in length, the Portugal-flagged ship is owned by Germany’s Elbdeich Reederei and operated by DP World on its North European service.
DP World London is equipped with a modern five-cylinder dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol or conventional marine fuel. It also features Exhaust Gas Recirculation technology designed to reduce emissions and support compliance with international environmental standards.
The vessel completed its first methanol bunkering in Rotterdam on 25 June 2026, with Unibarge handling the bunkering operation and Methanex supplying the fuel.
The addition represents another step in DP World’s investment in fleet modernisation and lower-emission maritime transportation. It is also expected to strengthen the company’s integrated network across ports, terminals, marine services, inland logistics and freight forwarding.
