Ethiopian Airlines Cargo Launches New China–Ethiopia Freighter Service

Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has launched a new freighter service connecting Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in China with Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia.
The route commenced on 28 August 2026 and will initially operate twice weekly using a Boeing 777 freighter. Ethiopian Airlines may later increase the frequency to four flights per week as demand grows.
The new service establishes a direct cargo connection between southwestern China and Africa, supporting the movement of electronics, machinery, high-value manufactured products and other commodities. It is expected to strengthen supply chains while reducing transit times and logistics costs for businesses trading between the two regions.
Through Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network from its Addis Ababa hub, shipments arriving from Chengdu can be distributed to important markets across 54 African countries, including Lagos, Accra, Dakar, Entebbe and Lubumbashi.
The new route further strengthens Ethiopian Airlines Cargo’s position as a key link between Asian manufacturing centres and the growing African market.
