South Korean container carrier HMM has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by securing the highest ratings from two of the world's leading environmental, social, and governance (ESG) assessment organizations, EcoVadis and Sustainalytics.
For the third consecutive year, HMM was awarded the prestigious EcoVadis Platinum Medal, an honor reserved for the top 1% of companies evaluated worldwide. In the 2026 assessment, the company achieved an overall score of 91 out of 100, improving from 87 points in the previous year. HMM posted an impressive 95-point score in the environmental category while also strengthening its performance in ethics, resulting in top-tier rankings across all evaluation areas.
The company also retained its "Low Risk" rating in the Sustainalytics ESG Risk Rating, maintaining its position as the highest-ranked global shipping company for the third year in a row. HMM's ESG risk score improved to 12.7, down from 13.6 a year earlier, with lower scores indicating lower ESG risk. The company received either "Negligible" or "Low Risk" assessments across most of the seven evaluation categories.
According to HMM, the consistent recognition reflects the company's ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable management practices and improve transparency across its operations. The company noted that global ESG evaluations increasingly emphasize verified public disclosures and comprehensive risk management, areas where HMM has continued to invest.
An HMM official described the achievement as a significant milestone, stating that maintaining the highest ratings from both EcoVadis and Sustainalytics for three consecutive years demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to ESG excellence. The official added that HMM will continue enhancing sustainability initiatives across all areas of its business while supporting responsible growth and creating long-term value for customers, investors, and stakeholders.
