HMM has announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Washington United Terminals (WUT), has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Samho for the supply of four new port cranes at the Port of Tacoma, Washington.

The modernization project will replace two aging quay cranes and add two new yard cranes, significantly enhancing the terminal’s operational efficiency. Once completed, WUT’s annual container-handling capacity is expected to increase from 590,000 TEU to 880,000 TEU, enabling the terminal to accommodate larger container vessels and support growing cargo volumes.

The contract covers the design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning of the new equipment, with delivery scheduled for completion by 2028.

This investment is part of HMM’s broader strategy to strengthen its global logistics network and improve supply chain resilience through continued investment in port infrastructure. Alongside ongoing terminal developments in India and Spain, the WUT expansion reinforces HMM’s commitment to supporting future trade growth and delivering more efficient logistics services for its customers.
