Since the beginning of July 2025, Lufthansa Cargo has been a member of the Saxony-based Silicon Saxony. They are the first airline to join this high-tech network, which connects more than 600 companies from the microelectronics, semiconductor, and IT industries – ranging from international technology groups and medium-sized businesses to research institutes. This makes Silicon Saxony not only one of the largest industry networks in Germany but also one of the most important associations of IT and microelectronics companies in Europe. A key focus lies on the Dresden region, one of Europe’s most significant hubs for semiconductor manufacturing.

For Lufthansa Cargo, this membership is a strategic step. Their goal is to bring the perspective of a global logistics service provider into professional collaboration while strengthening their proximity to key players in the semiconductor industry. Participation in working groups, industry events, and specialist forums will help them gain a deeper understanding of the sector’s specific requirements and further develop innovative transport solutions in a targeted way.

“The semiconductor industry is characterized by highly sensitive, time-critical supply chains. Our customers expect reliable, flexible logistics solutions – and this is precisely where we want to continuously develop through active exchange,” says Carolin Gerstenmaier, Head of Industry Development. “With our expertise in international air freight, we want to help make logistics processes along the value chain even more resilient and efficient. This supports our mission: Enabling Global Business.”

"We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa Cargo, one of the world's leading air freight companies, as a new member of the Silicon Saxony high-tech network. This partnership will enable us to strengthen our transport and logistics capabilities in a targeted manner. Reliable and efficient logistics are a decisive competitive factor for the globally interconnected semiconductor industry. The exchange with Lufthansa Cargo opens up new perspectives on intelligent supply chains and resilient infrastructures. Together, we want to work on further improving Saxony's international position as a technology location and further improving the conditions for research, development, and production," says Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of Silicon Saxony.

With this bold move, they are further expanding their commitment to the semiconductor industry. They already differentiate their services according to industry-specific requirements – from highly sensitive wafers and temperature-controlled microchips to valuable production equipment weighing several tons. Membership in the network will help them tailor their air freight solutions even more precisely to the needs of the industry.
