Maersk Asia Pacific Market Update September 2026

As businesses across Asia Pacific prepare for the final quarter of 2026, early planning and flexibility are becoming increasingly important. In its September market update, Maersk highlights developments across ocean freight, air cargo, inland transport and customs.
China’s Golden Week holiday in early October is a key consideration for ocean shipments. Combined with seasonal weather and terminal congestion, it could affect vessel schedules during the Q4 peak period. Maersk advises customers with time-sensitive cargo to review their space requirements early and consider departures before the holiday where possible.
In air freight, demand for high-value technology components is playing a growing role. Shipments of semiconductors, processors and server equipment linked to AI infrastructure are making capacity planning particularly important in manufacturing markets such as South Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
Regional transport options are also expanding. The China–Laos Railway is strengthening connections between China and the Mekong region, while cold-chain rail services are creating additional possibilities for fresh produce and other temperature-sensitive cargo. Cross-border road improvements may offer businesses more flexibility alongside established sea and air routes.
Finally, Maersk points to the growing importance of customs and origin documentation. Businesses moving goods through multi-country supply chains should keep product, supplier and country-of-origin information accurate and allow sufficient time for clearance procedures.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the practical takeaway is to plan Q4 shipments early, monitor schedules closely and keep alternative transport options available.
