Brazilian freight operator MRS Logística has completed an investment programme worth approximately R$2 billion in the Baixada Santista region, strengthening rail access to the Port of Santos.

The programme included the construction of six new railway yards, the modernisation of more than 90 km of track, the installation of 126 switches and the introduction of advanced signalling systems. The upgraded infrastructure will support freight trains of up to 2.4 km in length, significantly increasing transport capacity.

A key part of the investment is the new Integrated Operational Control Centre, which will coordinate railway movements across the port area. The facility brings together MRS, Rumo and VLI operations to improve traffic management, safety and efficiency.

The upgrades are expected to strengthen rail connectivity with Latin America’s largest port, improve cargo flows and support the continued growth of Brazilian exports.
