Saudi Arabian Airport Operations Disrupted Following Houthi Attacks

Airport operations across Saudi Arabia have faced significant disruptions following a series of missile and drone attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi forces. The escalating security situation has led to flight cancellations, temporary airport closures and reduced air cargo capacity, raising concerns about the reliability of regional aviation and logistics networks.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has been particularly affected, with Saudi authorities extending the suspension of operations following further attacks over the weekend. Several other airports, including facilities in Dammam and Abha, have also experienced security incidents, forcing airlines to reassess their flight schedules and operational arrangements.
Major international carriers, including Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways, have suspended or restricted selected services to Saudi Arabia. These disruptions are creating additional challenges for freight forwarders and logistics providers, with shipments facing potential delays, limited available capacity and the need for alternative transportation routes.
The situation has also prompted heightened aviation safety warnings from international regulators. Logistics companies are closely monitoring developments and exploring alternative routing solutions to maintain cargo movements across the Middle East.
With regional tensions continuing, further disruptions remain possible. Airlines, cargo operators and freight forwarders are advised to monitor operational updates and maintain flexibility in shipment planning to minimise potential supply chain interruptions.
