Lineas improves EcoVadis score, strengthening its commitment to sustainability

Lineas, Europe’s largest private rail freight operator, has significantly improved its EcoVadis sustainability score, reflecting its continued commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG). The company’s overall score increased by 10 points in 2024, to 51, improving its benchmark ranking by 14 positions.

EcoVadis is a globally recognized sustainability rating platform that assesses companies’ sustainability management and performance in four key areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. The rating enables customers to evaluate their suppliers and request improvements where needed. Lineas’ progress highlights its commitment to transparency and continuous improvement in these critical areas.

Our goal for 2025 is to reach a score of 55 ,” says Christine Vanoppen, Head of Sustainability at Lineas. This progress reflects the efforts of our entire team. Many of the sustainability initiatives we implement are already having a significant impact – it is often a matter of effectively documenting these efforts to demonstrate our progress to EcoVadis auditors and our stakeholders .”

The improved score strengthens Lineas’ position among sustainability leaders in the logistics sector, which is increasingly scrutinized by industries such as Chemicals, where customers demand strong ESG credentials from their partners. In addition to the score increase, Lineas has also received the ‘Committed’ badge, reinforcing its proactive approach to sustainability. The next milestone for the company is to achieve the bronze medal, which would require a further rise in the rankings.

Anne Grandjean, Director Reputation, emphasized the strategic importance of this achievement: “ Sustainability is at the core of our mission at Lineas. Rail freight transport is an essential solution for reducing CO2 emissions in logistics, and our improved EcoVadis score underlines our role in driving a greener supply chain.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Lineas has also received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious climate targets, reinforcing its role as a leader in decarbonising freight transport.

With its clear sustainability roadmap and continuous improvements, Lineas positions itself as a preferred partner for companies looking for responsible and efficient transport solutions.
