Lufthansa Cargo has introduced a significant upgrade to its digital booking process by integrating Add-on Services directly into the booking flow. This development allows customers to access additional services more easily and transparently, while creating more flexible and tailored airfreight solutions across the entire transport chain.
The new approach builds on Lufthansa Cargo’s modular product portfolio, where customers first select a product and define the required speed of transport before enhancing their shipment with targeted Add-on Services. These services are now seamlessly integrated into the digital booking journey, appearing at the final stage of the process with full price transparency and the option to be added individually in just a few clicks.
This integration reflects a broader shift in air cargo towards more customizable and customer-centric solutions. Instead of relying on standardized transport options, customers can now adapt each shipment based on its specific requirements, whether it involves sustainability, real-time monitoring, or high-value cargo handling.
Among the available Add-on Services, Sustainable Choice enables customers to support the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and contribute to climate protection initiatives linked to their shipment’s emissions. Personal Supervision offers a specialized solution for high-value and irreplaceable items, such as artworks, allowing dedicated representatives to accompany shipments during ground handling.
For temperature-sensitive cargo, the smartULD service provides continuous real-time data transmission, ensuring precise monitoring throughout the transport process. This is particularly relevant for sectors such as pharmaceuticals and cold chain logistics, where maintaining strict conditions is essential.
Additional services such as toDoor and Insurance further expand the offering by enabling direct delivery to the consignee’s bonded warehouse and providing comprehensive door-to-door coverage beyond standard liability limits. While these services are in the process of being fully integrated into the digital booking flow, they represent an important step toward end-to-end logistics solutions.
By embedding these services into its digital platform, Lufthansa Cargo not only simplifies the booking experience but also gives customers greater control over their shipments. This approach aligns with the evolving expectations of the logistics market, where flexibility, transparency, and speed are becoming increasingly important.
The development also highlights Lufthansa Cargo’s ongoing commitment to digitalization and innovation. As additional services continue to be developed, the company is further strengthening its position in delivering modern, efficient, and highly adaptable airfreight solutions.
