Global shipping and logistics company Maersk has announced the launch of FI2, a new dedicated ocean service connecting key manufacturing hubs in China with major gateways in India. The first westbound voyage is scheduled to depart from Shanghai on June 4, 2026.

The weekly service was introduced in response to rising demand for cargo capacity on the China–India trade lane. Operated by six vessels with a nominal capacity of 4,500 TEU each, FI2 will connect Shanghai, Ningbo and Nansha in China with Tanjung Pelepas, Nhava Sheva, Pipavav and Port Qasim.

A key advantage of the new service is its call at Pipavav port in Gujarat, India. The port is directly linked to India's Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), allowing cargo to move efficiently by rail to major industrial and consumption centers, including Delhi, Gurugram and Noida. This integration of ocean and rail transportation is expected to reduce transit times and improve supply chain reliability.

The FI2 service targets customers in the automotive, chemicals, technology and retail sectors, where reliable and time-sensitive logistics are critical. According to Maersk, the new route is designed to provide greater capacity, more consistent schedules and stronger connectivity between China and India.

The launch also reflects India's growing importance in global supply chains. As companies continue to diversify manufacturing and sourcing strategies across Asia, demand for efficient trade links between China and India remains strong. FI2 will complement Maersk's existing FI3 service, giving customers two direct Far East–India shipping options and greater flexibility in their supply chain planning.
