MSC is spotlighting its expanded intermodal logistics solutions across Africa, showcasing how integrated rail, road and port services are helping customers move goods more reliably and efficiently beyond the coastline and deep into key inland markets.Intermodal logistics play a critical role in reducing transit times, improving supply chain predictability and linking landlocked economies to global trade routes. With rising demand for dependable inland connectivity across the continent, MSC’s enhanced solutions offer customers more flexible, resilient total transport options.
Strengthening the Abidjan–Ouagadougou Rail Connection
The first feature in this series focuses on the Côte d’Ivoire–Burkina Faso rail corridor — one of West Africa’s most active trade routes. Spanning approximately 1,150–1,260 km between the Port of Abidjan and Ouagadougou, this corridor offers customers a reliable inland alternative to congested roads, helping to streamline freight movements for sectors such as agriculture, FMCG, mining and temperature-controlled cargo.Through MSC’s intermodal network, customers benefit from more consistent transit times, improved security for sensitive goods, and a stable inland-to-port link that supports year-round planning and operational confidence.
A Broader Intermodal Offer Across Key African Corridors
Beyond the Côte d’Ivoire–Burkina Faso rail connection, the series will spotlight additional corridors where intermodal solutions are creating value for customers.
Cameroon trade routes: explore infrastructure developments around Kribi Port and the upgraded truck routes that create smoother cargo flows and improve access to inland markets.
Truck solutions in South Africa and Namibia: This would take a closer look at MSC’s trucking network linking South Africa and Namibia, highlighting reliable reefer transport and the added support of the Durban reefer warehouse for temperature-controlled cargo.
Kenya’s integrated land-to-port flow: This explores a full view of Kenya’s export journey, following agricultural goods from plantation to port through MSC’s integrated inland network.
Together, these corridors reflect MSC’s commitment to providing predictable inland options that enhance planning, reduce operational complexity and connect customers more efficiently to global trade routes.
