Amazon Australia has unveiled plans to invest more than AU$750 million in a new state-of-the-art robotics fulfillment center in Brisbane, marking one of the company’s largest infrastructure projects in the region.

Targeted for completion in 2028, the facility will span 150,000 square meters across four levels, making it one of the largest warehouses ever built in Queensland. Once fully operational, the center will be capable of processing more than 125 million packages annually and storing up to 15 million items, including everyday consumer goods such as electronics, beauty products, and household essentials.

The site is expected to play a key role in supporting local businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises across Queensland, by enabling faster and more efficient distribution across Australia. In addition, the project will generate significant economic impact, creating more than 1,000 permanent jobs, alongside around 2,000 roles during construction and development.

A defining feature of the facility is the integration of advanced robotics technology designed to work alongside human employees. Robots will take over physically demanding and repetitive tasks such as lifting heavy inventory and transporting goods across the warehouse, allowing workers to focus on higher value activities.

Among the technologies deployed are mobile robots capable of lifting up to 500 kilograms and navigating autonomously using advanced sensors and AI systems. These robots are supported by safety features such as wearable Wi Fi devices that help them detect and interact safely with employees in real time.

In addition, robotic arms equipped with computer vision technology are used to identify, sort, and prepare items for shipment, improving both speed and accuracy in order processing. This combination of automation and human expertise reflects Amazon’s broader strategy to enhance efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on workplace safety and job creation.

Overall, the new Brisbane fulfillment center represents a major step in Amazon’s continued investment in automation, logistics innovation, and the future of e commerce supply chains in the Asia Pacific region.
