French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has agreed to acquire FedEx Supply Chain, the contract logistics subsidiary of FedEx Corp., in a transaction valued at $1.4 billion. The deal marks one of the largest logistics acquisitions of the year and significantly strengthens CMA CGM's presence in the North American contract logistics market through its subsidiary, CEVA Logistics. The transaction is expected to close later in 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Once completed, the acquisition will nearly triple CEVA Logistics' North American contract logistics operations. By integrating FedEx Supply Chain's network of approximately 150 warehouses and nearly 10,000 employees, CEVA's regional footprint will expand to more than 240 locations with a workforce of around 20,000 people. The move supports CMA CGM's long-term strategy of providing integrated end-to-end supply chain solutions across ocean, air, land and contract logistics.

Strategic partnership beyond the acquisition

In addition to the acquisition, CMA CGM and FedEx plan to establish multi-year commercial agreements covering both ocean freight and air cargo. Under the planned arrangement, CMA CGM will become a preferred, non-exclusive ocean carrier for FedEx, while the two companies will also cooperate on selected air cargo capacity solutions to improve aircraft utilisation and provide greater flexibility on long-haul routes. The commercial agreements are expected to be introduced in phases through 2028.

According to CMA CGM Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé, the transaction represents a major step in expanding CEVA Logistics and reinforces the group's long-term commitment to investing in the United States. For FedEx, the sale forms part of a broader strategy to sharpen its focus on core transportation and delivery services while continuing to serve customers through strategic logistics partnerships.

Strengthening North American logistics

The acquisition further accelerates CMA CGM's expansion beyond container shipping into integrated logistics services. Since acquiring CEVA Logistics in 2019, the French group has continued to invest in warehousing, freight forwarding and supply chain solutions worldwide. Adding FedEx Supply Chain to its portfolio significantly enhances its capabilities in North America and supports its ambition to become one of the region's leading contract logistics providers.
