The Port of Rotterdam Authority has announced the transfer of Routescanner, its digital platform for comparing and planning container transport routes, to maritime data specialist Royal Dirkzwager. The move is designed to support the platform’s continued growth and international expansion within a dedicated technology and data driven environment.

Launched by the Port of Rotterdam Authority in 2017, Routescanner was developed to improve transparency and efficiency in container logistics. The platform enables users to compare multimodal transport options, including routes, transit times, transport providers and CO₂ emissions, helping shippers and logistics companies make more informed and sustainable decisions.

The transfer aligns with the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s strategy of developing innovative solutions before enabling market players to scale them further. Royal Dirkzwager brings extensive experience in maritime information services and digital platforms, creating new opportunities for Routescanner’s future development and wider adoption across international markets.

According to Vivienne de Leeuw, Chief Financial Officer of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Routescanner has become a valuable tool for increasing transparency and sustainability throughout supply chains. She expressed confidence that Royal Dirkzwager is well positioned to guide the platform’s next phase of growth.

A key advantage of the transaction is the integration of Routescanner with Royal Dirkzwager’s Ship2Port platform. While Ship2Port provides real time insights into vessel movements, port calls and operational planning, Routescanner focuses on planning and optimizing hinterland transportation. Together, the two platforms create a comprehensive solution that offers end to end supply chain visibility from vessel arrival through inland transportation.

The combined offering is expected to help customers improve planning accuracy, enhance operational efficiency and support more sustainable logistics decisions. By connecting maritime operations with inland transport planning, users gain a more complete overview of cargo flows across the supply chain.

Joan Blaas, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dirkzwager, highlighted the strategic value of the integration, noting that the combination of Routescanner and Ship2Port enables customers to better predict, plan and optimize transport movements from coastal ports to inland destinations.

Routescanner will continue to operate from Rotterdam, with part of its team joining Royal Dirkzwager. Existing customers and partners will retain access to the platform’s current capabilities, while benefiting from future enhancements, expanded functionality and ongoing development under its new ownership.

The acquisition reflects a broader trend across the logistics industry, where digital platforms and data driven solutions are becoming increasingly important in improving supply chain visibility, operational efficiency and sustainability.
