DHL Supply Chain has officially broken ground on a new European Battery Logistics Hub in Holtum, Netherlands, further expanding its logistics infrastructure for electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems across Europe. The new facility represents a major investment in battery supply chain solutions and supports the company’s long-term Strategy 2030 focused on new energy and sustainable logistics growth.

The new hub will provide 17,000 square meters of specialized storage and service space dedicated to high-voltage batteries. Located next to DHL Supply Chain’s existing automotive operation in Holtum, the site will create an integrated logistics campus designed to support electric mobility and energy systems throughout Europe. Operations are expected to begin in early 2027.

According to DHL, the facility will support batteries used in electric vehicles as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS), including home energy storage and solar power applications. As demand for electric mobility and renewable energy solutions continues to increase across Europe, the company sees growing interest from automotive, industrial, and energy sector customers seeking reliable and compliant battery logistics services.

The new logistics hub will offer a wide range of specialized services including compliant battery storage, diagnostics and testing, charging, conditioning, refurbishment, reverse logistics, and recycling preparation. By combining logistics operations with technical battery services, DHL aims to help customers manage the entire battery lifecycle more efficiently while supporting circular economy and sustainability initiatives.

DHL also highlighted the strategic location of the Holtum campus, which benefits from strong transport connections across the Benelux region and Germany. The site has direct access to major European highways and is located close to a container and barge terminal connected to the Juliana Canal, providing additional sustainable transportation options for regional distribution.

The investment is part of DHL Group’s broader Strategy 2030, where the company identifies new energy, electric mobility, renewable technologies, and circular supply chains as key future growth sectors. Through continued investments in specialized infrastructure and advanced logistics solutions, DHL aims to strengthen its role in supporting Europe’s rapidly evolving energy and mobility industries.
