Japan Airlines (JAL) and Cargolux have announced the launch of an enhanced cargo cooperation, further strengthening their long-standing relationship that dates back to 1994, when JAL supported the introduction of Cargolux services into Komatsu Airport.
The new partnership, effective from April 1, 2026, connects Tokyo Narita with Luxembourg, one of Europe’s key cargo hubs, through a JAL codeshare on Cargolux-operated flights. In addition, the cooperation includes Narita–Chicago–Narita routes via interline arrangements on JAL flights, enabling both airlines to combine their networks and expand cargo connectivity across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Through this collaboration, JAL and Cargolux aim to meet the growing demand for air cargo transportation on major intercontinental routes, while contributing to the development of global logistics infrastructure and delivering seamless, high-quality cargo solutions.
Yuichiro Kito, Executive Officer of JAL’s Cargo and Mail Division, highlighted that the partnership secures scheduled freighter capacity on key European routes, strengthening the airline’s network and enhancing service reliability across vital global trade corridors linking Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
From Cargolux’s perspective, Pierandrea Galli, EVP Commercial Planning, emphasized the strategic importance of Japan as a core market and noted that the cooperation allows both carriers to leverage their complementary networks and operational strengths. This will enable them to expand their reach into key global markets and deliver a broader, high-quality service offering to customers worldwide.
The cooperation is initially planned for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
