A.P. Moller – Maersk has partnered with Viaservice-Ke, a subsidiary of Switzerland-based Viatrans SA, to provide Kenyan customers with more efficient container management and digital trade-financing solutions.
Through the partnership, eligible Maersk customers will gain access to the Viaservice Container Solution (VCS). The digital platform offers an alternative to traditional refundable container deposits, which can tie up significant amounts of working capital for weeks or even months.
Viaservice facilitates advance payments related to demurrage, container damage and total loss on behalf of customers, subject to reimbursement. This allows containers to be released faster while helping freight forwarders, importers and other logistics stakeholders maintain liquidity, reduce administrative work and keep cargo moving efficiently.
The cooperation builds on the companies’ successful partnership in Tanzania and extends the solution to Kenya. With the Port of Mombasa serving as an important gateway for regional trade corridors and landlocked East African markets, the initiative is expected to support smoother cargo flows throughout the wider region.
Maersk and Viaservice will also cooperate on customer education and stakeholder engagement to promote adoption of the platform. The partnership supports the development of a more resilient, efficient and digitally enabled logistics sector in Kenya and East Africa.
