Danish logistics giant A.P. Moller - Maersk has officially opened a new fully automated distribution center in Singapore, significantly expanding its logistics and e-commerce capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.

The facility, known as World Gateway II, spans 1.1 million square feet and represents a major investment of over $200 million. It is designed to support the growing number of companies using Singapore as a regional or global distribution hub, thanks to its strategic location and strong connectivity.

The center will handle a wide range of products, including consumer goods, retail items, technology, and healthcare products, supporting both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce operations across the region.

One of the key advantages of the new hub is its location. Situated close to major transport infrastructure such as Tuas Port and Changi Airport, the facility enables fast and efficient distribution of goods across Asia and global markets.

The warehouse is equipped with advanced automation technologies, including automated storage and retrieval systems, multi-shuttle systems, and autonomous robots. These technologies reduce manual handling, improve accuracy, and significantly speed up order fulfilment, allowing companies to respond more quickly to customer demand.

Currently around 70% occupied, the facility is expected to create approximately 500 jobs once fully operational. It also includes value-added services such as packaging, labelling, and inventory management, supported by integrated digital systems that provide real-time tracking and full visibility of goods movement.

In addition to efficiency, sustainability is a key feature of the project. The building has achieved top environmental certifications and incorporates energy-saving technologies such as solar panels and smart lighting systems.

The opening of World Gateway II highlights Maersk’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Asia Pacific, one of the fastest-growing regions for global trade. By combining automation, digitalization, and strategic location advantages, the company aims to provide faster, more reliable, and scalable logistics solutions for its customers.
