Maersk Highlights Supply Chain Resilience and Logistics Developments Across Latin America – October 2026

Maersk has released its October 2026 Latin America Market Update, highlighting the growing importance of supply chain resilience, improved connectivity, and operational efficiency across the region.
As logistics networks face increasing pressure from infrastructure limitations, climate-related disruptions, and changing trade conditions, Maersk emphasizes that supply chain resilience is becoming a key driver of business competitiveness. According to research referenced in the report, companies with stronger resilience capabilities have managed to limit revenue losses from supply chain disruptions to 1% or less, compared with an average of 5.1% across surveyed organizations.
Ocean Freight and Port Developments
Maersk continues to strengthen maritime connectivity between Latin America, Asia, Europe, and North America. From October 21, its Gulf Ocean Express (GOEX) service will introduce a new port call at Freeport, Texas, expanding weekly connections between the U.S. Gulf Coast and key ports in Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama.
Meanwhile, shipping services connecting Asia with the West Coast of South America remain operational, while enhanced connections between Europe and South America's East Coast continue to support regional trade flows.
Port operations across Latin America remain generally stable, although weather conditions, terminal congestion, and infrastructure limitations continue to present challenges in certain locations, particularly in Brazil.
Digitalization and Future Outlook
The report also highlights ongoing customs modernization and digital trade initiatives across Central and South America. These developments aim to improve shipment visibility, simplify cross-border procedures, and strengthen coordination between logistics providers.
Looking ahead, Maersk stresses that companies investing in early risk detection, operational flexibility, and reliable logistics partnerships will be better positioned to navigate disruptions and maintain long-term competitiveness in Latin America's evolving supply chain environment.
