Maersk launches next-generation connectivity for reefer

A.P. Moller–Maersk has introduced a new generation of connectivity for its refrigerated (reefer) containers, aiming to provide customers with significantly greater visibility of temperature-sensitive shipments. The new solution enables near real-time monitoring of cargo conditions, allowing customers to respond more quickly to potential issues during transport and improve overall supply chain performance.
The upgraded connectivity platform builds on Maersk's broader digitalisation strategy, which is focused on increasing transparency across global logistics operations. By improving data transmission capabilities, the company expects to deliver more frequent updates on cargo status while supporting better operational decision-making for customers handling perishable and pharmaceutical products.
Improved data transmission
The new technology is designed to replace previous-generation communication systems with a more advanced platform capable of handling significantly larger volumes of data. This enables reefer containers to transmit information more frequently, providing detailed insights into temperature performance and equipment status throughout the journey.
According to Maersk, the enhanced connectivity will improve supply chain visibility, reduce response times when irregularities occur and support more efficient cargo management from origin to destination. Global rollout continues
The reefer connectivity upgrade forms part of Maersk's wider deployment of its next-generation IoT infrastructure across hundreds of vessels.
