Saudi Arabia has launched a Logistics Corridors Initiative designed to strengthen supply chain resilience and improve cargo flows between Gulf countries and the Kingdom’s Red Sea ports. The program was announced by Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser during a visit to Jeddah Islamic Port together with officials from the Saudi Ports Authority and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.
The initiative creates dedicated operational corridors that allow containers and goods diverted from ports in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries to be handled through Jeddah Islamic Port and other Saudi ports on the Red Sea coast. The aim is to enhance supply chain efficiency and facilitate the movement of goods between regional ports while ensuring stable trade flows during disruptions.
According to Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s transport and logistics system has the infrastructure and operational capacity needed to respond quickly to changing trade conditions. The Kingdom’s Red Sea ports, especially Jeddah Islamic Port, play a central role in handling redirected cargo and connecting regional markets with global shipping routes.
The initiative also involves closer coordination between ports, customs authorities and logistics providers to speed up clearance procedures and facilitate transit shipments across Saudi Arabia. Officials said this cooperation will help ensure the smooth flow of goods across land, sea and air transport routes while supporting regional and international trade.
Saudi authorities highlighted that ports along the Red Sea coast have a combined handling capacity of more than 18.6 million TEUs per year, enabling them to accommodate additional cargo volumes and support shifts in global supply chains. The project is part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Europe and Africa.
