The Port of Gdańsk is set to host its fourth Business Mixer in Tokyo on November 27, 2025, aiming to strengthen Polish-Japanese trade relations and provide Polish exporters with new opportunities in the Asian market.
Strategic Importance of Japan
Japan, the world's third-largest economy, presents significant opportunities for Polish businesses. In 2024, Poland's exports to Japan reached approximately USD 1.2 billion, while imports from Japan totaled about USD 2.5 billion. This growth reflects the success of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which has facilitated trade by removing barriers and enhancing competitiveness.
Focus on Agri-Food Sector
The agri-food sector is a key area of interest, with Polish products such as beef, poultry, and dairy gaining popularity in Japan. The recent lifting of the ban on Polish poultry meat and egg products has further opened this market. Additionally, Polish machinery and mechanical equipment are becoming increasingly sought after in Japan.
Port of Gdańsk's Role
As Poland's largest seaport, the Port of Gdańsk plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade between Poland and Asia. It offers direct container connections with countries like China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and South Korea, and is equipped to handle the world's largest transoceanic vessels. The port's strategic location and infrastructure make it a natural operational center for entrepreneurs looking to engage with Far Eastern markets.
