This morning, the CMA CGM FUZHOU docked at the port of Longoni in Mayotte, marking the successful completion of a humanitarian operation coordinated by the French General Directorate for Civil Protection and Crisis Management (DGSCGC) with the support of the CMA CGM Foundation. This initiative is part of a partnership that facilitated the transport of 50 containers of humanitarian aid from mainland France.
700 tonnes of emergency supplies have been delivered to Mayotte, two-thirds of which are food products and nearly 20% water. These essential goods will be distributed to communities affected by Cyclone Chido, under the coordination of the Prefecture of Mayotte and the Union of Communal Social Action Centers (CCAS) of Mayotte, in partnership with the Banques Alimentaires (French Food Banks).
A Collective Mobilization to Respond to the Emergency
Loaded in Fos-sur-Mer on February 16 aboard the CMA CGM TAGE, the containers were transshipped in La Reunion before being transported to Longoni by the CMA CGM FUZHOU.
Assisted by the DGSCGC, this operation relied on contributions from NGOs such as the French Food Banks (Banques Alimentaires), which provide about a third of the total volume of this shipment, the Bataillon des Marins Pompiers de Marseille and the companies involved.
The CMA CGM Foundation took in charge the entire maritime transport as part of its Containers of Hope program, leveraging the Group’s expertise at the service of solidarity.
Containers of Hope: Humanitarian Expertise to Respond to Crisis
In the face of natural disasters and conflicts, the CMA CGM Foundation mobilizes the Group's industrial resources - containers, ships, aircraft, warehouses and trucks - to respond swiftly to the needs of the populations affected by crisis.
Through its Containers of Hope program, the Foundation took in charge the free transport of 100,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to 100 countries since 2012, including 30,000 tons in 2024 alone.
CMA CGM Group committed alongside the French government in Mayotte
Since the passage of cyclone Chido, the CMA CGM Group has been fully mobilized to support the affected populations. By setting up a maritime bridge, huit of the Group's vessels transported more than 2,441 containers, 3.5 million liters of water and 1,500 tonnes of humanitarian goods. One hundred vehicles and 20 tonnes of animal feed were also transported.
The CMA CGM Group, through Ceva Logistics, also mobilized to charter 12 flights from Paris carrying a total of 990 tonnes of goods.
On site, the 143 staff members of CMA CGM Mayotte, which was severely affected by the weather conditions, actively participated in the unloading operations. On Reunion Island, the Group's staff members mobilized to set up an exceptional weekly rotation service.
