DHL Express has strengthened its logistics infrastructure and air network in China through a major expansion of its Shenzhen “Super Gateway” and the launch of a new intercontinental freighter service.

The company invested EUR 177 million in expanding the Shenzhen facility, marking DHL’s largest investment in mainland China to date. Located at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, the gateway has tripled its processing capacity to approximately 900 tonnes per day.

The expanded facility will support growing cross-border trade, e-commerce shipments and time-definite international express services in one of China’s most important manufacturing and export regions. It is also expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and strengthen DHL’s operational capabilities across Southern China.

DHL Express has additionally launched a new daily Boeing 767 freighter service connecting Shanghai, Bangkok, Bahrain and Brussels before returning to Shanghai. The route provides up to 50 tonnes of additional daily capacity and improves connections between China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

The new service will offer customers greater scheduling flexibility and additional capacity for heavier shipments. It will also support DHL’s growing Heavyweight Express offering, which provides door-to-door visibility, customs expertise and predictable transit times for larger international shipments.

The investment responds to increasing demand from industries including technology, semiconductors, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, data-centre infrastructure and new energy. It also reinforces China’s continuing importance as a global centre for manufacturing, sourcing, innovation and international trade.
