DHL Supply Chain has announced a major expansion of its data center logistics infrastructure in North America, adding 10 dedicated facilities with a combined capacity of more than 7 million square feet, set to go live in 2026.
The new sites are designed to support hyperscale and colocation data center operators as demand for digital infrastructure accelerates, driven largely by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The facilities will provide specialized services such as white glove handling, rack pre configuration, and secure transport of high value IT equipment.
A key focus of the expansion is improving efficiency and reducing risks in complex data center construction projects. By moving tasks such as integration and testing into controlled warehouse environments, DHL aims to reduce on site congestion and minimize delays. Specialized transport solutions will also address challenges related to moving sensitive or oversized components through urban areas or remote construction sites.
The investment comes at a time when data center construction is accelerating globally, with increasingly complex supply chains spanning manufacturing hubs in Asia and deployment markets across North America and Europe. DHL is positioning itself as an end to end logistics partner capable of managing these flows through its integrated global network.
Industry data highlights the growing demand for such solutions. Around 85 percent of data center operators prefer working with a single logistics provider, yet less than half currently have such an arrangement, indicating significant room for consolidation and service integration.
The expansion is closely connected to DHL Global Forwarding capabilities, including multimodal transport, customs expertise, and handling of oversized cargo. This is particularly important for components such as servers, power systems, and cooling units, which often require coordinated movement across air, ocean, and road networks.
Overall, the new facilities strengthen DHL’s position in one of the fastest growing segments of the logistics industry. As hyperscalers continue to build the digital backbone of the AI era, demand for secure, synchronized, and high precision logistics solutions is expected to rise significantly, making data center logistics a key strategic growth area for the company.
