GLP-1 Demand Drives 150% Growth in Europe-Brazil Pharma Cargo for LATAM Cargo

The rapid growth of GLP-1 medicines is having a major impact on pharmaceutical air cargo flows between Europe and Latin America, with LATAM Cargo reporting significant growth on its Europe-Brazil trade lane.

Between January and July 2026, pharmaceutical volumes transported by LATAM Cargo between Europe and Brazil increased by approximately 150% compared with the same period last year, highlighting the growing importance of temperature-sensitive healthcare products for the air cargo industry.

GLP-1 Drugs Boost Pharma Demand

One of the key factors behind the increase is growing demand for GLP-1 medications, a category of pharmaceutical products increasingly used in diabetes and weight-management treatments.

The rapid expansion of this market is creating additional logistics requirements, particularly for reliable and temperature-controlled air freight services connecting pharmaceutical production centres with major consumer markets.

For Brazil, one of Latin America's largest healthcare markets, Europe represents an important source of pharmaceutical products.

Temperature Control Remains Critical

Transporting pharmaceuticals by air requires strict control throughout the supply chain.

Temperature management, specialised handling, shipment visibility and reliable transit times are essential to maintaining product integrity from origin to final destination.

As pharmaceutical volumes increase, airlines and logistics providers are therefore investing further in cold-chain infrastructure and specialised pharma capabilities.

Pharma Becomes Increasingly Important for Air Cargo

The strong growth recorded between Europe and Brazil demonstrates how developments within the healthcare industry can quickly reshape international air cargo flows.

For freight forwarders and logistics providers, the continued expansion of GLP-1 medicines and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals could create significant opportunities across Europe-Latin America trade lanes.

With demand for specialised healthcare logistics continuing to grow, pharma is set to remain one of the most important high-value segments of the global air cargo market.
