Report: CPKC and Americold Expand Strategic Cold Chain Partnership Across North America

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Americold are continuing to strengthen their strategic partnership aimed at transforming temperature-controlled logistics across North America. Building on a collaboration launched in 2023, the two companies are developing an integrated transportation and cold-storage network connecting Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
A major milestone in the partnership is the opening of Americold’s new import-export hub in Kansas City, Missouri. The facility, representing an investment of more than $100 million and covering approximately 335,000 square feet, is the first Americold warehouse directly connected to the CPKC rail network. The hub serves as a key gateway for refrigerated and frozen food products moving across North America.
The facility supports CPKC’s Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) service, the only single-line rail service dedicated to temperature-controlled freight between the U.S. Midwest and Mexico. By combining rail transportation with advanced cold-storage capabilities, the partners aim to reduce transit times, improve supply-chain reliability, and provide a more sustainable alternative to long-haul trucking.
CPKC and Americold also announced plans to further expand their cooperation in Mexico and other strategic markets. Their long-term vision is to establish a comprehensive cold-chain network that enables food producers, distributors, and retailers to move perishable products more efficiently throughout the continent.
According to executives from both companies, the partnership is helping modernize North America's food supply chain by combining Americold’s expertise in temperature-controlled warehousing with CPKC’s unique rail network, which is the only railway linking Canada, the United States, and Mexico under a single system.
